As our 2022 winter in Florida draws to a close, we are reminded just why we keep coming back here and why many of our neighbors do the same. It isn’t the facilities in the park, although they are great. It isn’t just the warm winter weather. It is something much more personal. It is the group of people who call this home for the winter. With each visit, we get to know more of our neighbors throughout the park, and they become almost like family. We are all here for differing reasons, but the common thread is “we all want to be here!” We came down to get away from the cold winter, but we keep coming back to see how our new “family” is doing.

The new management is OK; they do a good job managing the property. The sites are large compared to other similar RV resorts in the area and country. The weather is mild even when the temps dip below freezing, but they seem to quickly jump back up as soon as the sun comes up. But again, it is the people who make it special. This St. Patrick’s Day parade was organized not by the campground management, but as I understand, by a resident to help celebrate her husband’s birthday. The day started with the parade, followed by a potluck and ended with a concert. The parade was more than just a bunch of folks in decorated golf carts; it also included stops along the way for drinks and goodies. This will be a hard act to follow. I have organized large events myself, and I can tell you it is a lot of work! But, I also must admit the rewards are worth the effort and it is just a lot of fun! Thank you to all of the folks who participated and organized this event.

Earlier this month, I took photos of the Doggie fashion show. It too was organized by residents! It was a fund raiser for local animal organizations. The Rock Crusher management would do well noting the success of these resident-organized events and support them rather than try to compete. That’s my opinion but I don’t run the place.

Pictures of the St. Pat’s parade at Crystal River Rock Crusher Campground can be found on my DSDigitals Facebook page. Feel free to share the pictures on your Facebook Page.
